LET THERE BE LIGHT

Handmade Lampshades to Brighten Your Home

TRADITIONAL CRAFT

My lampshades are all made by hand. Each frame is bound, and the fabric and lining stitched to the binding using traditional methods. It’s labour intensive, but it is worth every stitch; a silk lined lampshade allows the light to flow softly, beautifully diffused in a way that a hard modern shade could never do.

I am often asked about lampshade sizes and if there is a rule as to how big a shade should be to fit a particular lamp. If you want to know more about that, please head to the Hints and Tips page.

I have some ready-made shades, so if you need a shade urgently contact me. Mainly, I make bespoke shades to the requirements of the customer, and of course, it is a complete pleasure to renovate existing but tired and worn lampshades.

If you, like me, love learning new things, you can book a day’s lampshade making with me. Please find more information on all of these below.

BESPOKE

There are times when off-the-shelf will not do. Often, I am asked to find a fabric to match a curtain fabric, a rug or a headboard. Or indeed to create a specific unusual shape of shade.  It is always a thrill to make something to the requirements of the customer, so if this is something you are considering, please do send me an email.

RENOVATIONS

There are lamps that require a specific shade, an inherited reading lamp perhaps, but the fabric on the shade has been stained or torn. I can renovate old shades, as long as the frame is unharmed. Please email me to discuss your requirements.

TEACHING

Do you want to learn something new? I am happy to share my craft by teaching it to groups of no more than 3 persons. I don’t have set dates for courses, so please contact me to arrange. Lessons take place in my home in beautiful North Yorkshire. Email me to find out more.
